Diva,Diba?26 August 1996Monday 1:02PM Muntinlupa, Philippines
My allowance is late. But it isn't really much of a problem. I was able to save up some money last month to get me by a few days. Unfortunately, now I don't have any savings and I'll have to start from scratch. I still have to pay eight hundred pesos for the gym I intend to join. I'm eight pounds under weight (just 102, imagine that?) and maybe some gym workouts will help. I also have to pay a few debts (around six hundred pesos) -- but of course, somebody also owes me five hundred so that's just a hundred bucks. It never fails don't you think? Just when you lend someone money, the next day you end up borrowing yourself... Anyway, I was absent for my classes today, I got tied up watching TV (and waiting for some money). I watched this cooking show on Star Plus called "The Secret Cooking of The CIA." It featured a pork chili dish and a shrimp barbecue. I liked it because it was just like a chef school where you have to take down your own notes. No recaps or anything like that. I was wondering if that is how its like in real cooking schools. After graduation (hopefully in March 1997) I might enter a cooking school somewhere -- I don't know yet; there might not be any in the Philippines. I pictured myself wearing one of those phallic white hats. I also watched the finals of the U.S. Amateur Golf on ESPN. Now that was exciting. Tiger Woods is not only a great golf player, he's a commercial icon. He won with some brilliant birdies in the final holes. I hope he finishes his college degree even if he's already a great golf player. He's sure to be a millionaire and superstar, but there's nothing like good education. Hey, if he's studying in Stanford, might as well graduate. I realized that last year when I went on a leave from school to work in a TV station, ABS-CBN. I thought that even if I'm getting paid without a degree my future didn't really look that bright. Everyday I had to prove myself on instinct level and had no "backup" to lean on to just in case I falter a bit. I was writing for a variety noontime show called 'Sang Linggo nAPO Sila, and if I stayed on, a burn-out on my part would have been fatal to my career so to speak. I guess it's always nice to have a diploma by your side in case of emergency. Besides, four years of college would have been a total waste without proof... Anyhow, Tiger Woods is really great. I hope he wins the Masters in Augusta. It's been two weeks since I entered the realm of cyberspace. Though I have a computer at home, I have no modem. I had no reason to surf the net until that day I "wandered" into this Internet cafe called "Global C@fe". I've spent around eight hours surfing since. I got to visit Frank Yue's Home Page on the card game OverPower and WordPerfect Magazine. I also spoke to somebody called "MeatMan" at the GayBistro in Quarterdeck's Global Chat. I don't know what IRC address that is but I always manage to get there using Global Chat or mIRC. Anyway, MeatMan is the first person I talked to over the net and I was really excited when I talked to him again a few days later. It was strange because I logged on as "jennings" which was somebody else's pseudonym (maybe a guy before me) which MeatMan help me change to "diva" which later changed to "stella" (the computer fucked up somewhere). When I visited GayBistro again I had to explain who I was because this time I used the name "Kayin". I guess I'll use "Kayin" for now since that's also my name in The Sprawl/Hokkaido MOO. Kayin is a character in Sony Playstation's "Toshinden 2". I've only played that game less than two sessions and Kayin was the only character I was good at. In memory of how fun it was playing him (and his "Hell's Gate" combo) I've vowed to become "Kayin" in all my chat sessions. Anyways, "Diva" sounded too draggy... perhaps only Annie Lennox could justify such a title. Of course recently, I found this place geocities.com and now I have an e-mail address. Actually, I can be reached on the net in three addresses: rickeyboy@geocities.com, rickeyboy@hotmail.com and cutter@cssp.upd.edu.ph -- which is an address in the University of the Philippines where I study. So I've surfed the net, chatted, joined a MOO, e-mailed people and now published a Web Page. Not bad for two weeks don't you think?
I recently visited http://www.tahoo.com and it was really funny. Somebody just had to save the typo-maniacs... I'll try my best to update this in the next two weeks... thanks for coming!
