The Story So Far...

Sem break is over and school registration starts this week. I spent the whole of last week just lazing about the house, doing almost nothing. There were a couple of days when I slept at 4 o'clock in the morning and woke up at 3 in the afternoon. But I had to stop this because I couldn't control myself: wanting to sleep at 4 AM is one thing, but wanting to sleep at 10 PM and ending up sleeping at 4 AM the next day is another.

Couch Potato

I basically spent whole days in front of the TV, surfing between BBC World, ESPN, CNN, Discovery Channel, NHK, C-SPAN, CNBC, NBC, MTV Asia and everything else in between. I even looked forward to this Internet show on MSNBC called "The Site". It's really not that hot, and their web page is merely average (it's slowed down by all the hard to see graphics), but it's the only Internet show I know of so I watched it. Besides, they're on every single evening. The other computer show I know is called "The Computer Chronicles", but it's hard to come by on C-SPAN. But what I really liked watching last week were the features on BBC World. They change them every month, and this month they had "Top Gear" ( a great car show), "Film 96" (intelligent movie reviews) and "Floyd's American Pie" (a hilarious cooking show featuring Floyd as he travels across the USA). I remember a few months ago when BBC had this feature called "Airport". It was a show about London's Heathrow Airport and the lives of the people working there. It was like MTV's "Real World" without the pretension. They featured a couple of people, like the security agent or the airport press, and would trace their lives for one day. It was like a soap opera! I just had to know what was going to happen to the security agent. It was truly engrossing. Anyway, news on CNN is also good, specially sports and the next few months on TV promises to be good as the NBA kicks off on many channels. (Note: Charles Barkley is now with the Houston Rockets! Will we see a Rockets vs. Bulls final? Hmmm... Let's go Chuck!)

More Download Reviews

Another thing I did was stay in front of the computer and test out the stuff I downloaded last week. Here's the verdict: I'm beginning to hate shareware. I know its "Try before you buy", but while you're "trying" the product, its so damn irritating! "Don't forget to register!" "This beg will disappear when you register!" Sheesh! Those things basically translate to: "We want your money NOW!" Anyway, I'm about to erase some of them already since they're not worth the "nags." One program I found interesting though was this freeware word processor called "Yeah Write". It's free and its designed like a dairy -- in fact it IS a dairy/journal, but you can also write letters and general purpose documents in it. It still has a lot of bugs, but the new interface was refreshing. On hindsight though, I might just stick to my good ol' word processor WordPerfect.

School's Back

This sem will hopefully be my last at the University of the Philippines, but I think I won't graduate until next sem, after I finish "cleaning up" all my delinquencies. This sem I will be having my practicum in Education, and it hasn't really sunk in yet: moi, a teacher? The kids wouldn't trust me... I doubt if they'll take me seriously. Anyway, I'll tell you about it as I move along. I also plan to take up Scrabble for my P.E. (Yup, they offer that here in UP) and Chinese or Spanish as a foreign language.

I'm not really inspired to do a "one last hurrah" -- I just want this over and done with. I've stayed in college too long. Six years is a long time... I'll be graduating from college, and my high school classmate will be graduating from Med school! Arghh. Groan. Gasp.

And now on to... Oberon!

Found orbiting around the planet Uranus, Oberon is a moon named after the king of the faeries. I got this picture at http://seds.lpl.arizona.edu and its a great web site. You get to tour the solar system from here. Lots of technical information that I couldn't even begin to understand. The images are provided by NASA and are free to download, because as they said, the NASA pictures are public property. Check this place out!

Updates to this page...

As you may have noticed, I've revised this page again! I was inspired by this personal web page called COSS's WORLD and hopefully, the new "look" is better. Diva,Diba? has a new cover page, and please look there next time for new things I put in here. This page you are reading now is the bi-monthly article I write about what's been happening to me (and other related topics...) and is named "new.html" This entire article will be archived in the "Old Stuff" section when I write a new one (which will hopefully be in two weeks) and will have a new name ("nov0496.html"). The new article will have the name "new.html". The recipe in the "Jordan Slammer" heading will end up on the "Jordan Slammer" page. (It's already there.) I hope you don't mind that you need to "jump" to a new page from the cover to read this, but this makes it easier for me to organize (I think). it also gives me an opportunity to write "other" non-personal articles. Also, this page doesn't have that annoying banner ad that ruins the layout! Anyway, I've also gotten a new guestbook server. It's also free, but I hope it doesn't give me a lot of error messages like the last one. Its called Pergatory and while I'm at it... why don't you, sign my guestbook? Or even... view my guestbook? Be one of the first! (Sorry for the cheesy gimmick there...)

And finally, why not check out my new Imagination Page! It's a place on the web where I just sit back and stare at the monitor... and relax... imagine... relax... dream... think... imagine... relax.... and when I'm done, I highlight the middle of the screen to see the hidden message... Thanks for visiting! See you in two weeks.
