Internet Cafés in Metro Manila
  • Computer@Espresso - This place is owned and operated by Herb, Lizzy and Ellen. Their other sources of business are network games like Quake and Warcraft II, and of course food. They recently introduced the sequel to Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Herb likes to play Quake with his clients. In fact that is what he does for almost the entire day. He kicks butt! Meanwhile, Lizzy is the IRC queen. If she's not doing anything, she chats. Ellen on the other hand specializes in Chili Con Carne. This is a nice place with fast computers located at Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City in front of Ateneo Gate 3.
  • Global C@fe - Also located along Katipunan Avenue, this is the place which introduced me to the Internet! Though their computers have been slow lately, they have nice 17" monitors. Look for dashing Bertrand when you go here. (He's enough reason that you would!) You can find him at the third floor of Torres building (Chinoys).
  • CyberC@fe - This place is only for the rich because they charge 60% more than the other cafes. They have the fastest computers though (due to their dedicated line to their ISP) and they are located at posh Robinson's Galleria inside the Body Shop on the third floor.
Web Page Tools
    HTML Editors
    • HTMLed - I'm actually recommending this program. I started writing HTML code in Notepad and I have found HTMLed to be the perfect supplement to it. HTMLed has a costumizable button bar and simple, but very functional buttons. It also colors HTML code quickly, to differentiate them from text.
    • Hot Dog Pro Web Page Editor - a lot of people like this program, but my thirty day evaluation period expired already so I uninstalled it. Here's their logo:

    Free Guestbook Service
    • Guestbook by
Lpage Lpage is used by the entire world. I remember that this service used to work, but they changed systems or something like that and things started to go wrong. They let me change the code in my web page, but it didn't work. I remember it working again, but it didn't work another time. Perhaps its slowing down due to the volume of guestbooks they have. But hey, why am I complaining? It's free!

    Free Web Counters
    • digits.com - My trusty Web-Counter! These guys are fast and reliable. Unfortunately, due to the volume of free counters they have, they have stopped giving free counters for a while. I hope that this is only temporary since they give a very good service.

    Free E-Mail Accounts
    • Hotmail - Some guys have complained that Hotmail is slow, but the value that these guys give is immeasurable. They have a new "look" now.

    Other Resources
    • WEB Techniques - A very useful magazine I purchased recently. The tips for HTML coding by Laura Lemay are great. It contains lots of technical stuff I didn't understand like CGI progamming and Java. (Partly because I consider myself more of a designer than a programmer). In time, however, I will begin to understand...
    • HTML 3.2 Reference - Download the HTML help file created by the Web Design Group. This is a useful reference, but it would certainly help if it had more visual examples. Newcomers may have a hard time understanding this as I did.
    • Daniel Will-Harris Home Page - Dr. Daniel writes regularly for WordPerfect for Windows Magazine on DTP design. I'm putting him here since he is a a guru of typefaces which I am specially fond of.
    • Creating Killer Web Sites - This site contains tips on how to create web pages, but since it is supposed to supplement a book of the same name, you don't get everything.

Personal Glory Page
  • Wizards of the Coast - I have a world ranking and I'm telling the world! Check out No.494 in the Top 500 players of Magic: the Gathering.
Web Pages I've Made
  • My home page at GeoCities - GeoCities is the original site of Diva,Diba? and they offer free homepages and even free e-mail...
  • The Streetboys Home Page - The Streetboys is a dance group that performs at various TV variety shows in the Philippines. I was able to work with them when I worked in TV and they were very nice. They are managed by Philippine film director Chito Roño. Okay, okay, okay... I'm a fan.
  • UPKEEP - This is the Philippine Guide to Magic: the Gathering, Legend of the Five Rings, OverPower and the UP Contract Bridge League. This page used to be a total mess but I have a decent issue there now. I believe this web page has completely replaced the printed version.
Search Engines
  • Search: What's New on the Internet? - They sent me some code so might as well use it
  • Alta Vista - This beast is hot! Be warned: there is a place called "AltaVista" at www.altavista.com, but this is not the real thing! Alta Vista, the search engine from Digital is located at www.altavista.digital.com ...
  • Yahoo! - Another popular place to search
Idolatry Links
  • Tiger Woods - Tiger has a fact sheet at ESPNET SportsZONE -- but no pictures! Tiger is just twenty years old but is already a professional golf player.
  • Jalen Rose - Jalen has a fact sheet at ESPNET SportsZONE -- but you need to subscribe to get it! (Limited Free subscription to MS-Internet Explorer users...) Jalen was recently traded to the Indiana Pacers but the team's performance has been average.
  • Streetboys - Okay, I'm a fan!

Others
  • Club #Filipino Home Page - #Filipino is a channel on Undernet. It is frequented by Filipinos all over the world, and I remember this place specially for someone named Jomari who lives in Canada. IRC is a great place to meet new people, and you may want to check out #flirtin and #gaymanila on Undernet.
  • Take a Tour of the Solar System! - This place has lots of images of planets and other heavenly stuff. You can download the images since they are public property. Every scientific exploration done on anything in the solar system is documented here. A highly recommended visit!
  • WordPerfect Magazine - My favorite magazine gives tips and features on the WordPerfect word processor. Unfortunately, this page is aimed at only supplementing the information in the printed magazine, and most of the good stuff are for sale.

Please tell me if you want a link to your page. I'd gladly include one here.
I'm still compiling all the other nice links I've visited so expect this list to get bigger next time!
